Perseverance & Optimism

Who I am and How I got started

I like to think that my defining characteristics are my ability to see the best in any situation and my steadfast tenacity to just keep hanging on and slogging forward until things go right for me and for those around me. I believe very strongly in the power of just showing up. I also believe in building up and empowering those around me to do the same by always bringing positivity to the task at hand. Just because I can’t move the mountain doesn’t mean we can’t find ways to take pleasure in getting over and past it.

Despite being a young cancer survivor, I still managed to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art as a merit-based full-ride scholar, and even a stroke couldn’t stop me from keeping my art practice. I am proud to say that I have continued to strive and flourish no matter what obstacles I have found along my journey to this day and beyond.

What I bring to the table

Here are just a few of the defining skills, accreditations, certifications, and proficiencies I can offer to my collaborators, colleagues, and leadership.

With a passion for art and visual storytelling, I began my journey by pursuing an accelerated Master of Arts in Teaching. I loved working with children, but I realized that the traditional school system wasn’t my true calling and discovered that I could translate my mentoring abilities and artistic skills to the world of marketing and advocacy.

Determined to expand my expertise, I continued my education at the University of Louisville, immersing myself in the study of psychology and acquiring technical skills to craft compelling visual narratives. By combining my artistic talents, teaching background, and psychological understanding, I developed the ability to create impactful visual content that resonates with audiences on a deep, emotional level.

I am Differently Abled, but trust me, that’s a good thing

As a stroke survivor, it took me quite a few years to overcome that serious setback, but in that time, it gave me incredible insight into the very real world of accessibility tools, what works, what doesn’t, and why it’s so incredibly important to include in person-centered designs that we create. Will my status affect my ability to work with you? Honestly, yes, absolutely. I am going to bring things to the table from the perspective of a person who has used accessibility tools in the real world, from visual aids to keyboard navigation and everything in between. Will there be any limitations to how I collaborate with you? Definitely. For example, if you have a team-building pickleball league or marathon, I probably won’t be the star player or pack leader, but I will enthusiastically wear team colors and cheer everyone on. If any of this makes you take pause at working with me, then please don’t hesitate to ask me anything. I am an open book, and I love transparency when it comes to setting expectations. At the risk of a little potential hubris, I really do think I am better than ever and that I have come out stronger and perhaps a little wiser too, and you can use that to your advantage.
